Holds a PhD in Fluid Mechanics from the University of Poitiers (France). He worked for energy production in the private sector before becoming Associate Professor at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Mechanics and the Belgian Royal Military Academy.
He joined the European Commission in 2006 where he held several positions from scientific officer to research programme officer in the successive framework programmes for research and innovation in the fields of aeronautics (DG RTD), energy (DG ENER) and space (DG DEFIS).
In 2021, Rémy joined DG MARE as a Deputy head of Unit where is main file is marine knowledge.
Dr. Marco Filippone, Ph.D., EMBA, is a distinguished leader in Ocean Science and Hydrography. With 14 years of dedicated service at the Italian Navy Hydrographic Office and over nine years at Fugro, where he currently serves as the Solution Director, Dr. Marco has left an indelible mark on the field. During his tenure at Fugro, he played a pivotal role in advancing the industry by contributing significantly to the development of autonomous vehicles and the implementation of remote and automated data gathering technologies. His expertise in these cutting-edge areas has had a profound impact on how we collect and utilize marine data. Dr. Marco's multifaceted career, which includes roles such as Chief Hydrographer and Regional Ambassador for Seabed2030 for Fugro, underscores his commitment to pushing the boundaries of marine knowledge and ocean observation. He actively collaborates with organizations like the IHO, UNESCO IOC, and the Hydrographic Professional Accreditation Scheme Steering Committee, while also providing strategic guidance to the EU's Blue-Cloud 2026 project. His visionary thinking and dedication continue to shape the future of the industry.
Nikolas Flourentzou is currently a Senior Associate Scientist at the Marine Observation Centre of the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute. He received a BEng degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, a joint MSc degree in Power Electronics and Drives from the University of Birmingham and the University of Nottingham, UK, and a PhD degree in Power Systems from the University of Sydney, Australia. He received the First Prize in the ElectricaAwards2010 International Innovation contest for the future of electricity networks by AREVA T&D (former ALSTOM Grid and now known as General Electric Grid Solutions) and the Best Paper Award at the 8th international conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IEEE PEDS'09). His fields of interest are Marine Technologies, Oceanography, Maritime Digital Transformation, Ocean Decarbonisation, and Offshore Renewable Energy.
